What is Lego ideas®?

 

Lego ideas is a platform for Lego fans to suggest ideas for new Lego sets. Essentially, fans submit their ideas as projects on the Lego ideas site, allowing other fans to vote for their project. If a project reaches 10,000 supporters (voters), it will be reviewed by Lego and if this is also successful, it will be redesigned and made into an official Lego set. In early July 2014, I designed a Lego Spitfire and decided to submit it as a project.

 

 

 

Cool, but why a Spitfire racer?

 

The Supermarine Spitfire remains one of the most beautiful aircraft ever designed and I am aware that quite a number in the Lego fan community desire an official set based on it. However, the fact that it was a military aircraft makes it an unlikely subject for Lego to make into an official set due to Lego's non-violence policies. While I support those policies, I still find that it a shame that this great icon of aviation might be rejected on such grounds. Thus, I suggest an alternative: an unarmed racing Spitfire! (click here for details of the model on Lego ideas)
